Thailand has launched a major residential solar initiative, aiming to support the installation of rooftop solar systems in up to one million households nationwide. The programme is part of the government's efforts to promote renewable energy, reduce household electricity costs and strengthen the country's energy security.
Key Details of the Programme
Approved by the Thai Cabinet on October 27, 2026, the programme has an allocated budget of 50 billion baht. Under the initiative, eligible households can receive financial support of up to 50,000 baht per household for solar equipment and installation.
The main programme details include:
Target: Up to 1 million households across Thailand.
Government support: Up to 50,000 baht per household.
System capacity: Residential rooftop solar installations ranging from 5 kW to 10 kW.
Registration period: October 27, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
Electricity export: Participating households can sell surplus electricity back to the grid, subject to the programme's requirements.

The initiative is being implemented in cooperation with Thailand's Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA). Participating installers and equipment must meet the applicable utility requirements and technical standards.
What Does This Mean for Thailand's Solar Market?
The programme is expected to encourage wider adoption of residential rooftop solar systems and create additional opportunities across the local solar supply chain.
As more households consider installing solar panels, demand may also grow for related products and services, including mounting structures, roof attachments, electrical components and professional installation.
At the same time, installation quality and system safety will remain important. Suitable mounting solutions need to accommodate different roof structures while providing reliable support for rooftop solar panels.
Growing Opportunities in Rooftop Solar Installation
Thailand's new initiative reflects the growing role of residential solar in the country's energy transition. With government support and increasing public participation, the rooftop solar market is expected to attract further attention from installers, distributors and other industry participants. As residential solar adoption continues to grow, mounting solutions need to accommodate different roof structures and installation requirements.
WOCHN offers a range of rooftop mounting solutions, including Mini Rail Systems, L Foot Mounts, Tile Roof Hooks and Standing Seam Clamps, providing options for different residential rooftop applications.
